Nars Sheer Glow Foundation Review

Hey everyone,

Today I am writing about a product which I purchased recently which in has changed my makeup routine!

Unfortunately it is what I would consider a luxury product and not exactly fitting with my Lifestyle for Less brand, however, I am going to work to find a fitting and affordable dupe and will be saving this foundation for more special occasions as it is just a bit too expensive for everyday wear!

Today’s product is the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation. As always with my foundation reviews the best place to start is at the colour picking stage. As you all know, I have really fair skin so finding a foundation with the right base colours to match my pale skin and not make me look too orange is really hard and I took a bit of a risk when I purchased this!

I decided to treat myself to this foundation as I was bought a House of Fraser voucher for my birthday from my brother and his girlfriend so thought I would invest in some products I wouldn’t normally spend my own money on! As well as purchasing a highlighter I also wanted to invest in their foundation as I had read so many great things about it and after deciding between Sheer Glow and All Day Luminous Weightloss foundation, I settled on Sheer Glow. This is going to sound really strange but this is mostly because of Shaaanxo’s reviews on Youtube. She has fairly similar skin to mine in most aspects from breakouts, redness and skin colour, and after seeing she preferred to Sheer Glow to other foundations I settled. Because the nearest House of Fraser to me is miles away I ended up ordering my foundation blind having no idea if this was going to match, and purchased Deauville. It turned out to be a perfect match and I have to say I am not putting this down to luck! Nars have such an amazing website and offer so much info on each of the shades as well as grouping into different skin brackets (e.g. Extra Light, Fair and also talk about undertones of colours) that I was pretty confident even just from reading about them I could pick the one for me, and it worked!

When it arrived (really quickly I have to add!) I couldn’t wait to try it on 🙂 I was suffering from a really bad breakout when it arrived which is both a blessing and a curse as I would be able to see exactly how this foundation worked when my skin was at its worst and I have to say, I wasn’t at all disappointed and was actually way more flawless than I expected!

Unfortunately I overlooked the fact that this foundation comes without a pump (so annoying!) but the tiniest amount of product on my foundation brush covered all of my face with ease. It applies easily thanks to it’s nicely liquid formula (which is not too runny) it smells amazing, blends effortlessly and gives  a really full coverage for day or night depending on the amount you build up. I don’t think I have ever used more than you would expect to get from one pump to be honest and I’ve done a few heavy makeup looks with terrible skin as well! I think the thing I liked most about this foundation though is that it is the only one I have ever worn which actually makes my skin look glowy and yet matte at the same time, but also feels so light and allows my skin to breathe.

However, there is of course one pretty hefty drawback and that is the price! This foundation cost me £31 from House of Fraser which coupled with the fact I think I may now be addicted to this foundation and will definitely have to buy more, is going to leave me with a much emptier bank balance (damn you Nars wizardry!)

Some of the looks I have created using this foundation ^

So let’s do a little run down of the pros and cons in case you have forgotten…

  • Bottle and packaging look so chic
  • Applies so easily with a brush and blends for a flawless finish with or without a beauty blender (I always recommend using one though!)
  • Smells amazing
  • Gives great coverage without using too much product
  • Easy to build for a fuller coverage look
  • Breathable and lightweight to wear
  • Doesn’t transfer!!!
  • Doesn’t get too oily throughout the day
  • Great range of colours to choose from

  • Really too expensive for a day to day foundation
  • Doesn’t come with a pump!

So to conclude, I think I’m in love! This foundation has definitely changed my opinion of higher end brands and may have made me a bit of a Nars obsessive! However, I am definitely not neglecting my love of high street, but honestly this doesn’t compare to any foundation I have used yet, so I am definitely on the look out for a more affordable dupe for day to day wear! If you have any sheer glow dupes which you adore, let me know in the comments below 🙂 Let me know too what your favourite foundations are as I’m always on the hunt for new goodies to try!

So what is the Lifestyle for Less rating? Well I’d definitely recommend it (I already have to basically everyone I know) and I will definitely be repurchasing when this one runs out, although hopefully that wont be too soon. For application, appearance and basically everything to be honest I would give this a 5 out of 5, probably more to be honest, as this is absolutely not comparable to other foundations I have reviewed, however because of the price I’ll have to drop this to 4 out of 5 as I just don’t think it’s affordable for most people to want to wear every day!

I hope this review was helpful! Don’t forget to check out my Instagram and Twitter for more from me daily and to like, comment, share and subscribe if you enjoyed this post 🙂

No Shit November update!

Hey everyone me again! I have another No Shit November update for you and to be honest, it’s been terrible! This week, I haven’t stuck to any of the plan I laid out at the beginning of November 😦

I guess one of the upsides to this though is that I always aim to write from an honest and real place. Obviously there has been loads of stories in the press lately about bloggers manipulating opinions and not being truthful, but I hope that this post alone assures you that I am writing from my heart and it’s nothing but the truth!

Basically I thought my foot was getting better, but it turns out it really isn’t and I have been advised that I should still be at complete rest. Hearing this news put me on a bit of a downward spiral as I was really looking forward to getting back to the gym and to just generally feeling better thanks to those work out endorphins, but that hasn’t happened yet. Mostly because the whole time my foot has been injured I’ve still been coaching gymnastics, which in the middle of competition season (aka right now) involved a lot of demonstrating which appears to actually just be making the issue worse!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that when I have seen yet another doctor this Tuesday I’ll have some answers and hopefully get back to being more active and toning up again, as at the moment I just feel like a horrible flabby mess. I’m sure it is probably all in my head, but I have noticed the physical differences which definitely put me in a less positive mental place!

So, that is where I am! The last week of No Shit November essentially went to shit, but onwards and upwards right? It’s a new week and I am ready to hit this head on again J

I hope you are all doing well in your pre Christmas detoxes! I am sure I will get to where I want to be soon, the more you want something the more likely you are to get it!

Lots of love, Leanne xx

November clothing haul! Primark, New Look and Boohoo…

Hey everyone, it’s me again and this time I am back with a haul post!

I wish I had enough time to shoot and edit videos but I just don’t at the moment, although I’m hoping to have more free time towards the end of next year to do some as I think hauls are always much more effective on video!

Anyway, over the past few weeks I have set out to spend the vouchers I received for my birthday and have managed to get some lovely stuff and still have some money left over to spend so of course when I have more goodies I will share those with you too!

Before I jump straight into telling you all about the products I bought and the looks I plan on putting together with them, look at the amazing transformation I have made of my office! They say that a peaceful environment makes for a peaceful mind, so I set about making the office the perfect Lifestyle for Less HQ; I set up my lighting system, huge mirror for the perfect outfit selfies and also an amazing new clothes rack so I can finally get organized enough to update you on all the fab new clothes I buy as well as getting my weekly outfits organized too! Let me know if you want me to do a blog post about my office set up and where I got anything from 😀

Anyway, on to the products I have purchased recently…

Burgundy Midi Dress – I have to admit when I first saw this on the hanger I wasn’t completely sold on it! I hate trying things on in stores and would much rather try it on at home and return it if needed, but with this dress I felt it was too risky not to try, but trust me when I say I am glad I did! It is extremely fitted which always gives me palpitations as (as you all know) I am trying to lose weight and tone up a little bit, however amazingly this dress seems to hang in all the right places and gave the illusion of a figure much better than I actually have!

Fashionista facts:

  • The dress is amazingly comfortable
  • Nice thick material without being too heavy
  • Smart enough for work with heels on
  • Can be dressed down with white trainers beautifully too
  • Horizontal stripes don’t make you look wider, they actually are very flattering
  • Hangs really well in all the right places
  • Well made with gorgeous detailing
  • Super affordable (I think this was only £12 and comes in other colours which I’m deffo going to have to go back and get!)

Chunky Grey Cardigan – So this was on my list of items I needed to get for winter! I love a cosy sweater or cardigan and I feel they make literally any outfit winter ready, so I had to get some more of these and this grey thick knit cardigan completely fit the bill!

Fashionista facts:

  • Really good length
  • Not too heavy and is perfect to wear all day
  • Good neutral colour to go with every outfit
  • Chunky knit
  • £10 which is a great price for such a well made piece

Sparkly cropped top – I always see tops in this cut on people and think they look so flattering, but I have always been a bit scared to buy one, mostly because it’s hard to find a bra to wear with them! However I have recently found an amazing strapless bra (from Primark) so decided to give this a go. I actually originally bought this in a size 12 as I thought it may be too tight otherwise, however I took it back and got a size 8 instead as it is cut on the big size. I feel like this is going to be a perfect xmas addition thanks to it’s added sparkle!

IMG_3089 IMG_3090

Fashionista facts:

  • Easy to wear
  • Thin material
  • Long crop and thin straps (make sure you have a good bra for this!)
  • Not too tight
  • Cut slightly big so size down on this!
  • Bargain at £6

Shoes – Yes I bought two more pairs of heels! I felt like I owed it to myself to get some slightly lower heels to ease my foot back in after injuring it (although even low heels are still hurting it)! One of them are going to be worn to death most days with literally every outfit imaginable and the other pair I cannot wait to wear and were a slightly impulsive purchase but I’m like a magpie and couldn’t resist the sparkle. Also they look way more expensive than Primark shoes…

IMG_3049 IMG_3094

Fashionista facts:

  • The black pair do rub slightly on the little toe due to the curve of the point
  • Look very sleek especially with jeans (both pairs)
  • Comfortable for all day wear
  • Great sizing
  • Only between £10-£14!

New Look:

Black suede a-line skirt: This is one of my favourite styles of skirt as they are so easily wearable! I would buy one of these in every single colour and pattern given half the chance, however I thought a black one would be most sensible to go with the several others I already have in much bolder colours! I actually got this in a size 10 and took the tag off before trying it on, but it is probably a tiny bit too big, so I would recommend either trying on in store or sizing down!

Fashionista facts:

  • Gorgeous soft material
  • Buttons up at the front
  • Great length
  • Slightly big fit around the waist
  • Has great sized pockets!!

Loose casual tops: I dont really know how much there is to say about these other than they are immeasurably useful, come in an array of colours of which I picked only two and go with everything!

IMG_3073 IMG_3080

Fashionista facts:

  • Great material
  • Super slouchy but also look great tucked in with tailored pieces
  • Loads of different colours
  • Only £7.99
  • I went up 2 sizes to get the slouchiest fit!

Gold Bomber Jacket: This is actually from the Charli XCX collection at Boohoo which I can no longer find on their website so it may have sold out, but I loved this! A cute cropped bomber jacket which is far dressier than the standard greens which bombers normally come in! Smitten from the second I saw this and wasn’t disappointed in person either 🙂

Fashionista facts:

  • Limited edition
  • Great for day or night
  • Easy to dress up or wear in the daytime
  • Surprisingly warm
  • Some of the glitter does transfer 😦

Velvet Mini Skirt: I had to get a second opinion on this skirt from my girls, but they said they all loved it so I quickly snapped it up ready for xmas part season. The velvet makes it feel really festive 🙂 I’m also a tiny bit obsessed with all skirts with a slit in the leg as I feel they add a level of expensive looking detail as well as serving a slimming purpose!

Fashionista facts:

  • Fits so well
  • Really high waisted
  • Slit isnt too high and is actually relatively modest
  • Perfect for xmas parties
  • Would look great with heels or above the knee boots
  • Only £8 which is a bargain for night out clothes

I’ve also ordered a very cute looking leather mini skirt and some beautiful thigh high boots from ebay which are on their way at the moment, as well as my very first Nars foundation which is also on it’s way! As soon as they have arrived I will update you on what they look like 🙂

Anyway I hope you enjoyed this post and found it useful. Let me know what your favourite items and looks are in the comments below 🙂 Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram as well to keep track of my day to day looks which I am sure will be featuring these items very soon!

No Shit November Update

Hey everyone,

Sorry that I havent posted for the past week, I’ve been so busy with gymnastics that I just havent had a chance to sit down and write for you all! On the plus side my team were second in the champs, so it was all worth it 🙂

It’s also pretty late right now, so this isnt going to be a long post I’m afraid, but don’t worry as I have an amazing post planned for Sunday which totally makes up for this crappy one right now!

No Shit November has somewhat derailed mostly because I have been pretty ill this week, which I think may be down to a dairy intolerance, which has left me eating whatever I can whenever I’m feeling well enough and has meant I’ve lost weight without even trying which is totally not the idea of No Shit November! However, now I am a little bit more aware of what seems to be making me ill, hopefully I can move forwards properly with my detox and really get to my end goal quickly and healthily 🙂

So where am I at right now? Well like I said I have lost a bit of weight just from being ill and am actually feeling slimmer and more toned that I have in a while. My current weight is at 9 stone 10lbs which I’m pretty happy with as the further away I am from 10stone and the closer to 9 makes me happy!

Here is a pic of where I am at right now (ignore the huge jogging bottoms they are way too big but also so stupidly comfortable!):

I hope your detoxes are all going well and that everyone is feeling happier and healthier! Like I said stay tuned on Sunday for a really fun haul post and over the coming weeks for detox updates 🙂 Don’t forget to keep an eye on my Instagram account for daily pictures chronicling everything from my makeup, to my fitness here!

Hey everyone,

This is a bit of an off the cuff post, but it’s something which I seem to find myself talking and thinking about an excessive amount of my time lately!

I get bored easily and mostly that is because I like to try new things and keep everything fresh and fun which is true both of my life, but also of my image!

I love trying new fashions and am definitely not afraid to try looks others might shy away from. Changing up my makeup styles is something I do on a regular basis but my hair has stayed relatively the same for a few years now and I’m thinking it could be time for a change.

I guess to go for something new you should probably see what my hair has looked like over the past few years…

Now I know they say blondes have more fun, but I want to try something different which I am sure I can make just as fun! I’ve toyed with cutting it all really short, but everyone thinks that is a pretty bad idea that I have mentioned it to so far, so now I’m thinking a new all over colour and this is the inspiration I have come up with…

And as you can see these are all shades of white to grey that I cannot stop thinking about! I know it could be a pretty hard colour to pull off, especially with my skin tone which is paler than pale, but something about it I find so amazing. I like that its both different and doesnt stand out too much, so what do you all think? I’d love to know if you think this is something I should give a go 🙂

And if you can’t remember, here is my hair now! I’ve been growing out the colour for a while now and it feels like it’s finally at a colour and style I really like and yet I’m desperate for a change!

So which do you prefer then or now? Let me know in the comments below!

I’ll do a follow up on this post very soon to let you know what I have decided and will also do a hair styles tutorial as I’ve been having lots of fun playing around with hair looks recently!

Lots of love, Leanne xx

Welcome to No Shit November!

Hey everyone, can you believe it’s November already? October went by in a blur full of birthdays, parties and just general fun but that obviously came at a cost, most of which have been burdened by my body, especially because when I wasn’t having loads of fun I couldnt go to the gym because of my foot which is believed to be fractured!

I feel out of shape, heavier than I have in a while, self conscious about my skin and more lethargic which along with the clocks changing leads to just general misery. Instead of just complaining about it though like I would have done previously I have decided to suck it up and make some changes. Obviously too much fun takes a toll, but I believe it is probably pretty easy to undo the damage with a little bit of hard work, which is why I have decided to start “No Shit November!”

A month of being good as a post Birthday, pre Christmas detox to keep me feeling confident and healthy!

I’ll be partaking in this regardless, but obviously if any of you also want to get involved that would be great! We can share our stories and keep each other motivated every step of the way and hopefully also develop some long lasting habits too 🙂

So what does No Shit November actually involve? For me it’s all about trying to be better. Whether that is clean eating, more exercise or just generally cutting the nonsense which I convince myself is okay:

  • Reduce intake of processed meats and stick to lean meats and fish
  • Minimal carbs at dinner time (try to eat carbs only at breakfast and lunch)
  • Only drink water or sugar free squash. No fruit juices, fizzy drinks or alcohol!
  • Increase activity levels and aim to get back to the gym regularly
  • Proper skin care including cleansing, toning and moisturising (which I haven’t been doing as much recently!)
  • Making time to chill either with activity which requires less brainpower such as drawing, reading or yoga
  • Try new things be it activity, food etc to make sure mental wellbeing is as important as physical
  • Get into a regular sleep/wake pattern and stop snoozing my alarm!

I’ll post my updates, measurements etc as regularly as possible and also aim to take a daily selfie of face and body to try to put together a before and after vid for the month 🙂

Yup, this is where I’m at right now :/

So even if you don’t want to take part, stay tuned for all my updates (good and bad as I’m not afraid to hold my hands up when things don’t go to plan) and send me your positive thoughts!

Lots of daily updates will be coming mostly through my Twitter and Instagram feeds so make sure you follow me there if you don’t already 🙂
