Fashion feature: Embroidery

It’s been a while since I’ve written a fashion post and I’m loving being able to do this again. I see items and trends all the time that I love but then just never make time to write about them, but today I am making sure that I do.

And the trend we are focusing on today is the embroidery trend. It’s been around for a while, but seems to be getting bigger and better and is definitely the hot trend for Spring/Summer. From casual to evening and everything in between, there are pieces to suit every occasion and every body type and I want to go through some of my top embroidered picks from New Look.

Embroidered Boots – with a low heel and a flattering cut above the ankle these boots are both stylish and practical. They can be worn by any body shape and would dress up any outfit in a flash. A sensible addition to any wardrobe and a bargain at under £35!

Embroidered Skirt – Perfect for the transition from Winter to Spring, team with tights and above the knee boots for a dressed up but comfortable look. Even ideal for work!

Embroidered T-shirt – Not sure how to dress up the comfiest of all your outfits, jeans and a tee? A statement slouchy cut-out tee with some embroidered features, is the perfect way to keep you looking stylish and effortlessly cool and a bargain at under £10.

Embroidered Dress – Looking for an update to the classic LBD? Add embroidery of course! Combined with the mesh trend, this is a stunning yet simple addition to your wardrobe and can be dressed up with metallic heels and accessories or dressed down with tights and boots.

Embroidered Jeans –  Another twist on the comfy outfit is the embroidered jeans. Wear with a plain slouchy t-shirt or a vest and your favourite skinny jeans are automatically updated ready for all seasons and occasions.

Embroidered Jacket – Everyone should have a leather jacket in their wardrobe, but sometimes they can seem too harsh. Make it more feminine by picking up a leather jacket with embroidery to help make you stand out from the crowd.

Top tips though: remember not to combine your embroidered items. It may be tempting to wear your jeans, boots, tee and jacket together, but that would be overkill! Stick with one piece and make that your centrepiece.

Make sure to like, comment, share and subscribe! Please leave links or pics of your favourite embroidered items in the comments below 🙂

Lots of love, Leanne

No Shit November update!

Hey everyone me again! I have another No Shit November update for you and to be honest, it’s been terrible! This week, I haven’t stuck to any of the plan I laid out at the beginning of November 😦

I guess one of the upsides to this though is that I always aim to write from an honest and real place. Obviously there has been loads of stories in the press lately about bloggers manipulating opinions and not being truthful, but I hope that this post alone assures you that I am writing from my heart and it’s nothing but the truth!

Basically I thought my foot was getting better, but it turns out it really isn’t and I have been advised that I should still be at complete rest. Hearing this news put me on a bit of a downward spiral as I was really looking forward to getting back to the gym and to just generally feeling better thanks to those work out endorphins, but that hasn’t happened yet. Mostly because the whole time my foot has been injured I’ve still been coaching gymnastics, which in the middle of competition season (aka right now) involved a lot of demonstrating which appears to actually just be making the issue worse!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that when I have seen yet another doctor this Tuesday I’ll have some answers and hopefully get back to being more active and toning up again, as at the moment I just feel like a horrible flabby mess. I’m sure it is probably all in my head, but I have noticed the physical differences which definitely put me in a less positive mental place!

So, that is where I am! The last week of No Shit November essentially went to shit, but onwards and upwards right? It’s a new week and I am ready to hit this head on again J

I hope you are all doing well in your pre Christmas detoxes! I am sure I will get to where I want to be soon, the more you want something the more likely you are to get it!

November clothing haul! Primark, New Look and Boohoo…

Hey everyone, it’s me again and this time I am back with a haul post!

I wish I had enough time to shoot and edit videos but I just don’t at the moment, although I’m hoping to have more free time towards the end of next year to do some as I think hauls are always much more effective on video!

Anyway, over the past few weeks I have set out to spend the vouchers I received for my birthday and have managed to get some lovely stuff and still have some money left over to spend so of course when I have more goodies I will share those with you too!

Before I jump straight into telling you all about the products I bought and the looks I plan on putting together with them, look at the amazing transformation I have made of my office! They say that a peaceful environment makes for a peaceful mind, so I set about making the office the perfect Lifestyle for Less HQ; I set up my lighting system, huge mirror for the perfect outfit selfies and also an amazing new clothes rack so I can finally get organized enough to update you on all the fab new clothes I buy as well as getting my weekly outfits organized too! Let me know if you want me to do a blog post about my office set up and where I got anything from 😀

Anyway, on to the products I have purchased recently…

Burgundy Midi Dress – I have to admit when I first saw this on the hanger I wasn’t completely sold on it! I hate trying things on in stores and would much rather try it on at home and return it if needed, but with this dress I felt it was too risky not to try, but trust me when I say I am glad I did! It is extremely fitted which always gives me palpitations as (as you all know) I am trying to lose weight and tone up a little bit, however amazingly this dress seems to hang in all the right places and gave the illusion of a figure much better than I actually have!

Fashionista facts:

  • The dress is amazingly comfortable
  • Nice thick material without being too heavy
  • Smart enough for work with heels on
  • Can be dressed down with white trainers beautifully too
  • Horizontal stripes don’t make you look wider, they actually are very flattering
  • Hangs really well in all the right places
  • Well made with gorgeous detailing
  • Super affordable (I think this was only £12 and comes in other colours which I’m deffo going to have to go back and get!)

Chunky Grey Cardigan – So this was on my list of items I needed to get for winter! I love a cosy sweater or cardigan and I feel they make literally any outfit winter ready, so I had to get some more of these and this grey thick knit cardigan completely fit the bill!

Fashionista facts:

  • Really good length
  • Not too heavy and is perfect to wear all day
  • Good neutral colour to go with every outfit
  • Chunky knit
  • £10 which is a great price for such a well made piece

Sparkly cropped top – I always see tops in this cut on people and think they look so flattering, but I have always been a bit scared to buy one, mostly because it’s hard to find a bra to wear with them! However I have recently found an amazing strapless bra (from Primark) so decided to give this a go. I actually originally bought this in a size 12 as I thought it may be too tight otherwise, however I took it back and got a size 8 instead as it is cut on the big size. I feel like this is going to be a perfect xmas addition thanks to it’s added sparkle!

IMG_3089 IMG_3090

Fashionista facts:

  • Easy to wear
  • Thin material
  • Long crop and thin straps (make sure you have a good bra for this!)
  • Not too tight
  • Cut slightly big so size down on this!
  • Bargain at £6

Shoes – Yes I bought two more pairs of heels! I felt like I owed it to myself to get some slightly lower heels to ease my foot back in after injuring it (although even low heels are still hurting it)! One of them are going to be worn to death most days with literally every outfit imaginable and the other pair I cannot wait to wear and were a slightly impulsive purchase but I’m like a magpie and couldn’t resist the sparkle. Also they look way more expensive than Primark shoes…

IMG_3049 IMG_3094

Fashionista facts:

  • The black pair do rub slightly on the little toe due to the curve of the point
  • Look very sleek especially with jeans (both pairs)
  • Comfortable for all day wear
  • Great sizing
  • Only between £10-£14!

New Look:

Black suede a-line skirt: This is one of my favourite styles of skirt as they are so easily wearable! I would buy one of these in every single colour and pattern given half the chance, however I thought a black one would be most sensible to go with the several others I already have in much bolder colours! I actually got this in a size 10 and took the tag off before trying it on, but it is probably a tiny bit too big, so I would recommend either trying on in store or sizing down!

Fashionista facts:

  • Gorgeous soft material
  • Buttons up at the front
  • Great length
  • Slightly big fit around the waist
  • Has great sized pockets!!

Loose casual tops: I dont really know how much there is to say about these other than they are immeasurably useful, come in an array of colours of which I picked only two and go with everything!

IMG_3073 IMG_3080

Fashionista facts:

  • Great material
  • Super slouchy but also look great tucked in with tailored pieces
  • Loads of different colours
  • Only £7.99
  • I went up 2 sizes to get the slouchiest fit!

Gold Bomber Jacket: This is actually from the Charli XCX collection at Boohoo which I can no longer find on their website so it may have sold out, but I loved this! A cute cropped bomber jacket which is far dressier than the standard greens which bombers normally come in! Smitten from the second I saw this and wasn’t disappointed in person either 🙂

Fashionista facts:

  • Limited edition
  • Great for day or night
  • Easy to dress up or wear in the daytime
  • Surprisingly warm
  • Some of the glitter does transfer 😦

Velvet Mini Skirt: I had to get a second opinion on this skirt from my girls, but they said they all loved it so I quickly snapped it up ready for xmas part season. The velvet makes it feel really festive 🙂 I’m also a tiny bit obsessed with all skirts with a slit in the leg as I feel they add a level of expensive looking detail as well as serving a slimming purpose!

Fashionista facts:

  • Fits so well
  • Really high waisted
  • Slit isnt too high and is actually relatively modest
  • Perfect for xmas parties
  • Would look great with heels or above the knee boots
  • Only £8 which is a bargain for night out clothes

I’ve also ordered a very cute looking leather mini skirt and some beautiful thigh high boots from ebay which are on their way at the moment, as well as my very first Nars foundation which is also on it’s way! As soon as they have arrived I will update you on what they look like 🙂

Anyway I hope you enjoyed this post and found it useful. Let me know what your favourite items and looks are in the comments below 🙂 Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram as well to keep track of my day to day looks which I am sure will be featuring these items very soon!

My 4 top picks for Spring 2015!

Hey everyone!

So the sun is shining today to really end the long weekend on a high and it got me thinking! We are now officially out of Winter and the shops are all starting to stock their Spring/Summer clothes so I thought I would share with you some of my top picks for items and trends to watch out for this season 🙂

Please remember (just a little disclaimer before I start) that I am by no means a fashion expert, but these are all things I will be wearing over the next few months. I don’t really have a distinct style, I just pick what I like and go with the flow, so if you disagree that’s fine, but hopefully you enjoy the items I’m feeling!

The seventies are back yay! I am a huge fan of older fashion anything from 50’s-70’s are my favourite, because the cuts and prints are so much more exciting that a lot of what we see today and this season so much of that is inspired by the seventies. Lots of florals, flared trousers, waistcoats and fringing galore! Some of my favourite picks include:

Camel has been a huge colour throughout winter and that doesn’t appear to be stopping any time soon, so it’s time to pick up a few items in camel to fulfil your colour crush! Some of the favourite ones I have seen are:

Often suede can make you think of horrible items of clothing or for some reason it always makes me think of corduroys, however suede is in at the moment in a big way! I’ve already purchased a pair of suede shorts (in camel of course!) ready for the spring and summer from H&M and I am sure I will be adding more! If the idea of wearing suede scares you, why not try suede accents through your accessories, such as ankle boots or bags! Here are my faves:

Not a style I’ve ever been a huge fan of as I think it can often look a bit costumey, however this season I have seen so many lovely pieces with really subtle fringing to meet the trend which I am definitely tempted to try! Here are my faves:

So there are my 4 top picks for trends for Spring/Summer 2015! I hope you enjoyed it and that it gave you inspiration and if you like any of the items shows above they are all from either Missguided, Boohoo, Asos, H&M or Pretty Little Thing 🙂 Let me know what your fave trends are at the moment in the comments below!

New York Fashion Week – My Top Picks

Hey everyone,

So it’s that time of year again! That’s right it’s fashion week time! I’ve been following New York Fashion week pretty closely this year, so thought I would do a run down of some of my fave collections and lines that I’ve seen so far!

Marc Jacobs

  • Military inspired
  • Cinched waists
  • Darker hues (lots of navy and khaki)
  • Elegant yet wearable daily

nyfw mj nyfw mj2

Ralph Lauren

  • Collection is called Glam Safari (says it all really)
  • Super chic outfits in khaki, yellow, nude and camel tones
  • Mixture of clean lines and girly styles
  • Perfect for day time and evening wear (especially the tulle skirts which I have been obsessed with since Olivia Palermo wore won on her wedding day!)

Hugo Boss

  • Tailored yet flirty
  • Lots of pastels and sixties inspired lines
  • Powerful yet pretty pieces

  • Not a brand I’ve heard of before, but they have turned out to have one of my favourite collections of NYFW!
Bold colours and strong distinct lines
  • Super tailored palazzo pants and culottes in bold colours teamed with crisp whites
  • Also featured tulle dresses in light shades with an ethereal vibe
  • Something for everyone!

nyfwd nyfwd1 nyfwd2 nyfwd3

The Row

  • Minimal yet highly sculpted
  • Simple colours in interesting shapes
  • Crisp looks
  • Good mix between oversized chic and fitted looks, often working together to create one cohesive look!

Diane von Furstenberg

  • Very flirty and girly collection
  • Strong floral prints and bold colours
  • Sixties and seventies influences
  • Clueless inspired at times with cute matching co-ords and flirty tea dresses

Round up:

The Spring NYFW has been amazing and I cannot wait for some of these trends to hit the high street with their replicas. I know that I am a budget beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogger but I still love watching and taking note from fashion week (eventhough I could never spend that much on clothes!) to see what is likely to be hot and hitting the shops soon! I like seeing how looks are put together and also to see if there is anything that I have in my wardrobe which I might be able to recycle to replicate the looks I see on the catwalk 🙂

From military style, super structured looks with an almost androgynous foundation on one end to ethereal and full on feminine hems and silhouettes on the other there is almost certainly going to be something for everyone and I for one cannot wait! I love all ends of this seasons fashion scale as I am a huge fan of bold colours and structured looks (culottes are one of my new favourite things) but on the other hand I am a real girly girl so pastel shades and full midi skirts are right up my street too (even if I am usually too short to pull off these looks!)

What do you think of the looks from this NYFW? What do you think is going to be a hit and what do you think we could do without?

Can’t wait to hear what you all think! Hope you enjoyed this post and that it’s given you some inspiration for the seasons to come! Don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe if you enjoyed this or any of my other posts 🙂

Post Christmas Clear Out

Hey everyone, Merry Christmas!!

Hope you all had an amazing time with your friends and family and enjoyed every second as much as I did 🙂

There are so many plans I have for my blog over the next 12 months but for now I’m going with a simple post – all about getting organised after Christmas (mostly because I am in a bit of a food coma so can’t think too much right now!)

If you are anything like me then the aftermath of the festive season will leave you feeling all a bit stressed and anxious as your house becomes inundated with pressies and people galore, and trying to find room for it all (especially in a little house like mine) can be a tall order!

Today I have spent my time cleaning and organising (as well as stuffing my face with loads of leftovers) to try and get back to some normality which has involved clearing out loads of old stuff, finding homes for lots of new stuff and just generally tidying up a bit 🙂

Honestly, getting your house in order (literally in this case) has left my mind feeling much clearer than it was before and actually it was really simple!

My house before I got organised!

My house before I got organised!

I mean, despite opting in for e-billing for pretty much everything I still get loads of post, and so buying a shredder and getting rid of all the old paperwork was such a quick win. Immediately we had loads less clutter and more room for stuff we actually want! And if you’re reading this I assume you probably got loads of clothes and make up just like I did, so just taking the time to organise it all into however you store your products (I’ll be posting about how I store my huge haul of make up and beauty products soon!) makes such a big difference 🙂 Hanging away all my clothes also really helped especially with my wardrobe organising plan which I posted about a while ago and which is definitely one of the best organising tips I’ve implemented. Plus by organising it all away you actually remember every item which you got!

Anyway, this is probably a really boring post, but basically I just wanted to tell you all that if you are feeling stressed and anxious about finding the time to sort everything and to get back to some normality, take a deep breath and look at the bigger picture! You’re not the only one who is feeling that way and to be totally honest, pretty much everyone is in the same boat at the moment! Break it all down into chunks and do one bit a time, it makes it much more manageable and don’t forget to play some of your favourite tunes as you work to make everything more fun (as organising and cleaning can be totally boring!)

Failing all the above, do some exercise! I enjoy going for a walk in the fresh winter air and clearing my head a bit as it makes everything that you worry about seem completely irrelevant and not only that a good double benefit of the walk is that it’ll help burn off those Christmas calories!!

I hope you enjoyed this post or that you at least found it a little bit helpful to reassure you that you’re not alone if you are feeling a bit frazzled. Do any of you have any top tips for overcoming stress or anxiety? If you do I’d love to hear them in the comments below!

Also while you are here look out for the launch of my Youtube channel coming soon as well as my fitness and health series that I’ll be doing to help you beat the bulge (which I definitely need to do after massively overindulging) which will be coming in the next few weeks a long with a couple of surprises I have coming up for you all over the next few months 🙂 As always if you enjoyed this I would really appreciate if you could like, share, comment and follow my blog and for more on me don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @lifestyleforless and Twitter @lifestyle4less!

Really late November Favourites!

Sorry again for the long time since I last posted, but this is a long one which I have been working on offline for a while so I hope you enjoy 🙂

So this blog fans, is my first ever (hopefully to become a monthly feature) favourites post! If you’ve never read one of these its exactly what it says in the title… All my favourite things from a given month and this month that of course means a reviews of my faves from November.

Now this won’t only feature items which I have purchased recently and may also contain old items and products which I’ve rediscovered but hopefully you’ll enjoy it just the same 🙂

The way I’ll lay this out each month is to choose one item from a variety of different categories including makeup, clothes and home (as well as much more) to hopefully give you a bit more insight into me and the things I love, as well as providing you with inspiration! Anyway, that’s enough of an intro so let’s get started…

So technically I’m cheating on this one already by picking two items, but they real really similar so I think I can just about get away with it! This month my item(s) of clothing are the gorgeous Brushed Mini Skirts I got from New Look recently. I love the first one I got so much that I had to go back and get another in a different colour and to be honest I’ll probably keep buying more!

These skirts are uber flattering, a lovely cut and finish and in their nice thick fabric are perfect for Autumn/Winter (plus they weren’t too expensive either!) Check out the New Look website here to see the whole range of these skirts as they stock them in so many different colour and patterns it’s unbelievable!

I love their nod to the sixties in the cut they just feel so girly yet with a professional twist and every time I’ve worn these I’ve had loads of people commenting on how nice they look!

The only downside is that they are really short (in true sixties style) and bearing in mind that I’m only 5ft that shows just how short they really are! However, I wear this as a high waisted skirt, so if you were taller you could wear this lower on the hips to combat this.

They are still available to pick up now so I’d advise you to get on over to New Look and pick one up as they are perfect for so many different occasions 🙂

This was such an easy pick! I’m completely obsessed with my mid height black Chelsea boots from Primark! I bought these in October (they are still on sale now and you can view them in my Boot post) and to tell the truth I’ve worn these at every given opportunity since I purchased them!

They are perfect to wear with both jeans and dresses/skirts and can be styled for most situations! I wear these to work, out for brunch with friends and family or just as a casual outfit to the shops 🙂

Obviously because they were from Primark they were an absolute bargain so if you’re looking for an ankle height pair of black boots this Winter then I would definitely recommend these as I have nothing bad to say about them!

In my opinion Winter is the season of accessories! From hats, scarves and stoles it’s my absolute favourite time to really style up a look with a few accessories which can be carried from year to year and really take a look to another level!

My personal favourite accessory of the moment has to be my Laura Shilton gloves which I picked up in TK Maxx. I bought these way back in summer as I really wanted a pair of driving gloves (yes, I confess that I use driving gloves all year around!) but very quickly these have turned into my winter gloves.

Although they aren’t very thick, because they are real leather they keep my hands really warm and they look so good in their cropped style! Again I’ve had so many compliments on them which is good because they are the most expensive gloves I’ve ever bought! TK Maxx had loads of different styles of gloves in store so take a trip down to check them out as you’ll pick yourself up a real bargain and get hold of a pretty unique looking pair of gloves, it’s definitely worth the investment 🙂

I know I keep talking about winter, but now the weather has well and truly turned arctic, it’s more important than ever to look after your hair (and skin)!

To keep my hair from getting dry I use the Schwarzkopf Got2b styling oil after washing and before styling. Whilst it feels fairly oily on your hands it coats the ends really well and cannot be seen once styled. I find that it definitely makes a hug difference to the condition of my hair even after just one use. Definitely add this to your winter must haves!

In a similar style to above, my face products are my Skin Therapy eye make-up remover, cleanser and toner. I honestly don’t have much to say about these other than that they are absolutely essential, especially a this time of year and that using these budget products really helps give your skin a boost and a glow 🙂

So I was going to write loads more, but it’s already the 17th December and I still haven’t posted this so I am going to be lazy and just abbreviate the rest of what I was going to write. I promise I’m going to try and get better at this soon 🙂

Anyway here are the rest:

House: Ikea TV Stand and organiser

Music: James Bay!! (love him – please check him out!)

Food: Not really food but I am obsessed with Costa Hot Chocolate at the moment!

TV/Movie: Orange Is The New Black – hurry up season 3

Shop: Almost always one of my faves, but really delivered in November so definitely New Look 🙂

Perfume: One I rediscovered again recently is Calvin Klein Euphoria such a beautiful every day smell

Sorry for the long post! These will be so much easier to do once I am on Youtube as all I will need to do here is a summary 🙂 Sorry also for the length of time it has taken me to find the time to put this together, I have been working on it in dribs and drabs for weeks, but finally it is as good as done! I hope you enjoyed this but please let me know in the comments below what else you’d like to see here 🙂 Also, let me know what your face things are at the moment so I can check them out for December!

Lots of love, Leanne xx
