Welcome back!

Welcome back!

Hey everyone, I know it has been ages since I last posted and for that I am sorry, although really the biggest apology that I owe is to myself.

I spent a lot of time and effort setting up my blog and I loved writing and sharing my take on everything from fashion to foundation! A lot has changed in the past few months though, some of which I will share with you in my writing, but it was a perfect storm of life changing events and for a while I kind of lost myself without even realising. It’s funny how you don’t realise how something has changed until it gets back to normal. Like if you’ve ever lost your hearing because of a cold and then one day it suddenly comes back and you realise how amazing it is to hear properly again. That’s what happened to me recently and I realised I needed to stop being unmotivated and get my shine back again and here I am.

I realised as well since I was last here that even if I am not feeling great about myself and the way I look or do makeup or dress, there is always someone else out there who looks at you and thinks “wow I wish I could do that” and that really motivated me to not let those people down.

So here I am, pretty much the same old me but definitely a bit older and perhaps even a bit wiser now too. So what will I be talking about here now? Pretty much the same stuff from my favourite fashions, my go to make-up, real world weight loss struggles, image advice but most importantly this will be a place for me to come and be myself, so I hope you all like it  🙂

Lots of love, Leanne

How time flies…

Wow, I cannot believe that it was the 2nd birthday of my blog this week.

I completely forgot to do anything to commemorate it as it has been one crazy week! Travelling around so much with work, my mums birthday, a major op for a close family member and planning for my last sessions of coaching have taken up all my time and attention.

Finding two minutes to reflect, the 2nd year of my blog hasn’t gone as well as the first and the blame lies completely with me. I haven’t been able to put as much in so naturally I’ll get less from it, but I’m not disheartened. Sometimes life changes your plans and I think that every change or challenge should be viewed as an opportunity. So far this year advancing my career whilst bettering the bonds with my friends and family have been the most important things to me, so lacking a little here has been worth it 🙂

Next week will be very emotional for me as I am leaving gymnastics after 20 years of being involved in the sport, 7 of those in coaching. Dropping one commitment does mean I should be able to find time to write in the week though as well as taking better care of myself, so I’m focusing all my attention on the good that will come from making such a heart-wrenching decision.

More important than looking back though is to continue to look forward. I want to thank you all for your support so far and let you all know I cannot wait to be able to invest more time with you as I am sure then only good things will happen! LifestyleforLess HQ really is a no negative vibes kinda place 🙂

Stick with me!

Lots of love, Leanne xx

My first fashion show – Behind the scenes

On Saturday 30th May I was involved in my very first fashion show so I thought I would share with you all my experience!

I was lucky enough to get to spend all my time at the fashion show with What Sarah did, an amazing store in Hitchin who sell such a fabulous array of clothes.

Like I said I have never been involved in a fashion show before and I have to admit that before this one I was extremely nervous and really didn’t know what to expect, however my fears were soon allayed and it turned out to be an absolutely amazing experience and I really hope I get to be a part of it again next time!

I thought I would run you through a little timeline of the day so here goes…

9.30am

I arrived a 9.30am and honestly felt like I was late! Already there was a buzz in the air and all systems were already ago! Girls were in makeup, getting dressed and looking through their outfits as well as going through run-throughs of their walks. Not only that, but the store was open to customers so you can imagine the atmosphere. It was honestly one of the best feelings being behind the scenes and getting to see what goes into a show.

20150530_094716_resized 20150530_095910_resized10.20am

About an hour after arriving I take a trip down to the market square to see the catwalk. The tents are being put up by friends and family of the stores, however there is a slight drama! It would seem that someone who was using the square the day before had left a trailer behind and messed up the organisation of the tents! No sweat for the guys and girls who are walking though, who like true professionals adjust their sets accordingly and work around (excuse the pun) the rather large obstruction. Massive well done to everyone involved in hiding the trailer as well, you honestly couldn’t tell it was there unless you knew!

11am

Make up is being finished and everyone is getting dressed and putting on accessories. I have to say I’m the worst at accessorising with jewellery and scarves and often go through phases of wearing jewellery to accentuate my outfits, but being in What Sarah did and seeing the amazing jewellery made me want it all! There was an amazing selection of earrings, chokers, necklaces and even arm cuffs which had me completely obsessed, my favourites were probably the daisy choker and arm cuff which I am very tempted to go back and purchase for my upcoming holiday!

20150530_105143_resized20150530_105853_resized

They were both cute and sassy, a combination which I adore and is very much my style! At this point everyone is getting a bit tenser, a few more glasses of Prosecco are being downed for a bit of dutch courage and everyone is starting to get jitters, both through excitement and nerves. At this point it is really clear to see the inspiration for the What Sarah did show. Pulling on festival vibes, mainly Coachella andd the huge diversity of styles you get there, the looks are all fun, flirty and individual! After photos are taken, both impromptu and professional, it’s time to go!

11.40am

Everyone who is taking part in the show is now gathered at Osinskys in the town centre, and the room is full of a completely diverse and eclectic bunch of people. I’ve never felt more at home in a room! There are young girls in flower crowns, glamorous women in fascinators, some of the highest heels I have ever seen and bare feet, all accentuating the different styles of the stores they are representing. All of the decades seem to be there from the 40’s and 50’s right up until influences from today. More pictures are being taken, people are pacing and the view from the bar shows that the town centre is packed with people waiting to see the show!

20150530_114327_resized

And then it was show time…

It was over in a flash, although I am sure it lasted for almost an hour! Stores from all price ranges and styles were represented with some of my favourite collections coming from Rubarb and Rosita Lollipop (and What Sarah did of course, but that goes without saying!) and the best part about it all was that the diversity of the stores, was represented in the diversity of the audience. To a background of amazing music and a gorgeous summer day, that was it, all the models had walked like complete pros, the audience loved it and then it was all over.

So what would I recommend you look out for this summer?

– bold shapes (taking cues from previous decades, seventies and nineties)

– colours and prints are definitely in – the bolder the better

– jumpsuits and playsuits are still a huge trend

– chunky shoes

– variations of fabrics e.g. denims, suede etc.

And what did I take away from it all?

Besides the amazing Motel jumpsuit I bought… I took away a new found understanding! This was definitely an eye opener as to how much goes in to putting on such a show but it was absolutely something I want to be involved in again. It also really showed me how much I love fashion, all the different colours, prints, shapes, cuts and sizes – I literally cannot get enough. It makes me want to own my own store (as I can’t design so that is out of the window) but to be able to run a store which houses collections from designers would be a complete dream of mine!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Look out for the full gallery of pictures coming very soon. Don’t forget to comment, like, share and subscribe! Lots of love, Leanne xx

Product Review – Maybelline Baby Skin Primer and Pore Eraser

Hey blog fans,

It’s that time again for another entry of Lifestyle for Less! Before I get started, I just wanted to do an update and have a bit of a chat really 🙂 So I finally got my PC and at last my posts have become easy to do, which hopefully means more regular posts for all of you! I’m aiming to do at least 2 posts a week and will also be trying to find the time to start vlogging, as it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while. I’ve already had requests for videos and have got both a haul video and a contour video planned, but just haven’t got time to film them yet, but in the next few weeks I’ll definitely bite the bullet and get a video uploaded 🙂 Also, If you do have any videos that you’d love to see then please let me know as I’d be happy to give them a go!

Anyways, after that completely random intro it’s time for today’s actual post which is another review! This time it’s all about the Maybelline Baby Skin Primer and Instant Pore Eraser.baby skinI’ve mentioned this in a few of my recent posts because I am completely and utterly obsessed with this product! It was a complete impulse buy, but boy am I glad I picked it up!

I’ve tried other pore erasers and have been swearing by my Garnier BB Cream as a primer lately but honestly it’s one of the best pore erasers/minimisers/primers I’ve used 🙂 I’ve tried the Benefit Porefessional before, but I really didn’t like it. I hate the consistency of it as it’s not really a clay finish but also not a liquid. It feels like it’s blocking my pores the second I put it on and feels really claggy on the face, but luckily Baby Skin is nothing like this.

The consistency of Baby Skin is much more like a clay (it’s a silicone primer so think of it like a more solid version of Vaseline) but despite the fact it’s so thick, it doesn’t smother the face when it’s applied. It glides on effortlessly without being greasy (unlike other pore minimisers which can be quite difficult to apply evenly to the face) and sits as a light film on the face. Describing it like a film really isn’t a good description but honestly, it’s amazing! It doesn’t even feel like it’s there but as soon as you apply it, it’s like it blurs away imperfections which makes it perfect to wear under foundation for a flawless finish. As well, unlike other pore minimisers which I’ve tried this doesn’t have a horrible smell. Lots of other products similar to this either smell too floral or too chemical which really turns me off a product, but luckily this isn’t like that. The best way I can think to describe it, is just that it smells clean (terrible description I know) and when I apply it in the mornings it really brightens me up and brings me out of my sleep-induced haze, as it just feels so fresh and smells so refreshing.

Now the top two questions I ask myself when reviewing products are would I repurchase this and would I recommend this to a friend? The answer to both of these questions is definitely YES! I honestly, don’t know how I lived without this before, but I can guarantee this will be a firm favourite in my make up box from now on. My only quip is that I find it a little expensive for the quantity (£7.99 for 22ml) when in comparison to my Garnier BB cream I get a lot more for almost half the money 😦 Now I know that £7.99 is hardly breaking the bank, but this product will not be lasting very long in my house! I’m using it every day (albeit sparingly) and this is likely to be a bi-monthly repurchase, but honestly I do think it’s worth it. It makes my skin look great when I’m having breakouts and when I have clear skin it just gives me that extra edge towards having a flawless appearance. As well as that, it also doubles up as a really good make up fixer! This holds make up on so well even without a spray, which is great, especially if you often have a long and busy day at work or if you’re out about and don’t have the opportunity to touch up your make up during the day, like me!

Now if you don’t have time to read all of this, or have forgotten what I said as I’ve rambled on a bit, then why not make up your mind in 2 minutes with my handy overview below?

  • Smells great
  • Blurs pores and imperfections
  • Light and fresh consistency
  • Real staying power all day
  • Isn’t too heavy and doesn’t block pores
  • Holds make up in place, even when you are on the go
  • Slightly pricy at £7.99 for 22ml (but still worth a purchase)
  • Matte formula – non-greasy

If it wasn’t for my quibble over the price this definitely would have received a 5/5, but because of that I am giving it a solid 4/5 instead (and begging you to go out and try this). Not only has it completely revolutionised the way I get ready it’s also turned me into a bit of a Maybelline fan girl! Before I used to stick more to Barry M, 17 or Maxfactor, but with their newer range of products (Better Skin foundation, Baby Lips lip balm etc.) which come in fantastic shades, are fun AND affordable, I am completely converted and not only will I be repurchasing this product, I’ll definitely be indulging in other Maybelline goodies too 🙂 As well, if you go to Boots regularly like I do, you’ll have noticed that they almost always have an offer on their make up (Maybelline products are currently 3 for 2!!!) so when you factor in both the price and the quality of the product they are definitely worth a purchase and have sealed themselves  a place at the top of my current favourite drugstore brands list!

Is there a brand which you prefer and if so, why? Let me know in the comments below as I’d love to hear! Also if you’ve tried the Baby Skin Pore Minimiser and Primer I’d also really like to hear what you have to say 🙂 As always, if you enjoyed this or any of the posts on my blog please like, share , follow and comment!

Tutorial – Engagement party look

Hey everyone,

I’m so glad to have found the time to write a full length blog post! It feels like it’s been ages since I really got the time to do this last, so I apologise, however, I’m more organised now and finally feel like everything is finally in order to allow me to concentrate on my writing and pursuing my passion some more 🙂

Recently I went to my friend’s engagement party, which was an amazing night out and thought I’d share with you my hair, make up and outfit to maybe give you inspiration of future looks to try.

So to mix it up a bit this time I’ll start with the outfit…

The finished look

For the party I decided to go for a summery/dramatic look so for the outfit I picked a cute pink and white striped scuba skater dress which cost me £5 from Northweald Market! The shoes which you can see cost me £9.99 from eBay (both of which are featured in my August haul post) and my jacket and bag are really old! The leather jacket is my trusty favourite and is from the Kardashian Kollection but I can’t remember where the bag is from sorry 😦

20140816_194731    20140816_194708This outfit all together cost me less than £20 (which nobody believed when I told them!) so it just goes to show that you don’t need to spend loads of money on a fancy outfit to look nice. So now on to the next step…

To achieve the more dramatic edge to my look I decided to do a summery smokey eye and bright pink lip, with big lashes and dark eyebrows. Obviously to achieve this I started with a clean and moisturised face before starting with a good base.

Recently I’ve been obsessed with the Baby Skin Primer and Pore Minimiser by Maybelline so this was the first product I used. I applied this all over my face before then applying a small amount of Stay Time Concealer by Seventeen on to any dark or discoloured areas of my skin. After this I mixed together my Garnier BB Cream and MAC Studio Fix Foundation on my foundation brush before applying all over my face. Once this was blended in I used the lightest shade from my cream contour palette (read all about it here) under my eyes to really highlight and lighten them. On top of this cream contour I also applied my Seventeen Liquid Highlighter to really accent the top of my cheekbone. To set all of this I went to my all-time favourite powder! This is a powder I’ve talked about before (and will find the time to fully review soon) and is from a store on eBay called Mineral Shack. It’s actually a mineral foundation, however, I love to use this as a setting powder as it stays all day and night whilst giving a full coverage without being too heavy. It’s basically a cheaper version of Bare Minerals foundation, and out of all the “drug-store” mineral and setting powders I’ve used this is by far the best!

Once the foundations have been laid for the face (excuse the pun!) I begin with the contouring. For an evening event like this one, I do like to apply quite a heavy contour to the face to really bring the look up a notch from the day time. To do this I apply the darkest shade from my powder contour palette (which you can read all about here) under my cheekbones, to shape my nose and also near to my temples. I blend all of this in on top of the setting powder, before adding my MAC Blush in Dollymix onto the apple of my cheeks, my Bourjois Bronzer on top of my forehead, down the edge of the nose and under the jawline before finishing by applying my Mineral Shack Mineral Highlighter onto the top of the cheekbone, alongside and under the nose, a touch under the eyebrows and also a small amount onto the cupids bow.

Once this is done it’s on to the fun bit, the eyes!

To get a perfect smokey eye I used my Naked 2 palette and first off selected the shade pistol to apply all over the lid. Once this was applied, I decided that to really make the eyes pop and fit in with the season of summer and the fun nature of my outfit, I’d use a coloured eyeshadow as a crease highlighter. Because the colour scheme of this look was heavily focussed on pink, I decided to use a bright pink shade from the palette from my August Haul post before adding Blackout onto the crease, the corners of the lid and onto the lower lash line. Once this was done I used my Collection Lasting Colour Gel Eyeliner to draw a winged flick on the upper eye before applying my Eyelure eyelashes in size 110. To really complete this look, I then used a black kohl eyeliner on the upper and lower lash line, before using my liquid highlighter on the inner tear ducts to make the eyes appear bigger. Once this was all finished, because it was an evening event, I decided to do a darker eyebrow, so I used my HD Brows Eyebrow Pencil in Brown to follow the natural arch of my eyelash before filling in to create full, dark and dramatic eyebrows to finish off. I used my Seventeen Lip Crayon in a Hot Pink Shade to add a pop of colour to the lips, before fixing this all in place with my Avene Water Spray.

For my hair I wanted to keep it a bit simpler, so all I did was on clean and conditioned hair I centre parted my hair, before backcombing at the crown. Once this was done I then sectioned the hair off and began curling with my GHD Straighteners before brushing out with my back comb brush to create a messy curled look with some volume at the roots. Once this was done I fixed the hair in place with Silvikrin Extra Hold Hairspray. And voila, I was all done and ready to go.

I still hate posting the before pictures :(

I still hate posting the before pictures 😦

 After 20140816_194426

I know written down this sounds like a super long and complicated process, but all in all including my hair and getting dressed it took about 1 hour to get ready, which is not an awful lot longer than it takes me to get ready day to day 🙂 I hope you found this post useful and that it might inspire you to try something new be it a bolder colour of eyeshadow or even just a trip to your local markets, but more than anything, I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I truly enjoy writing them and putting these looks together!

As always please like, share, follow and more importantly comment if you liked this post or if you have any suggestions of what you’d like to see me do next! Thanks again for reading ♥

Lots of love, Leanne xx

My blogging inspirations

Hello again everyone,

As you may have seen elsewhere on my blog, I have been an avid blog subscriber and viewer for years, so I thought I would share with you some of my favourites! I hope this post helps you find other blogs/vlogs which may interest you, allows you to get to know me better and provides you with more inspiration to really pursue and embrace your passion, whatever that may be 🙂

Beauty:

Pixiwoo

Pros: I love this Youtube channel and blog! This is one of my long term faves and one of the first I ever found. It seriously never gets old or boring and always has me coming back for more. This blog and Youtube channel was one of my biggest drivers to set up my blog and I hope to be even half as successful as they are 🙂 The reasons I love this are that the reviews and tutorials are really in depth and varied, but are also very current often sampling looks from celebs at big events.

Cons: Sam and Nic who run the blog are both professional make up artists so sometimes it is hard to get the looks down at home 😦 Also they use really expensive products and have a much bigger variety of products than anyone I know, which can be super frustrating when you really want inspiration or to nail a new look!

http://www.youtube.com/user/pixiwoo and www.pixiwoo.com

Health and fitness:

Blogilates Blogilates-Cassey-Ho-talks-fitness-and-healthy-eating

Pros: This is one of my favourite fitness channels! I love Cassey Ho who runs this blog because she has amazing energy and passion for what she does. Her page and site are colourful and super engaging and she actually makes working out fun. As well as this, there are a whole range of videos including exercise and cooking and the videos are all different lengths and varieties. I spend a lot of time reading this blog and working out along to the videos at home and even better there is an amazing app as well for fitspiration on the move 🙂

Cons: This blog is soooo good that you can spend a LOT of time on there! It’s a massive   distraction for me (this is a terrible con as it just shows how great I think this is, but I really cannot think of anything else!)

http://www.youtube.com/user/blogilates and www.blogilates.com

Lifestyle & Fashion:

Patricia Bright

Pros: I found this channel fairly recently, but it’s fast become one of my faves! I love the layout of Patricia Bright’s blog because it looks so clean, modern and easy to navigate, but I also loveloveLOVE her style. She writes and speaks in a way which makes you feel like you know her so she is definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already. (Plus she has such an amazing, effortless style which I would love to be able to pull off!)

Cons: As much as I’m obsessed with Patricia’s style, sometimes the products that she uses can be pretty pricey! They’re all gorgeous, but I definitely cannot justify spending such large sums of money on individual items (especially items like make up which I go through so quickly!!!)

http://www.youtube.com/user/BritPopPrincess and patriciabright.co.uk

Zoella

Pros: Now I’m sure you’ve all heard of Zoella! She is the most adorable, kooky vlogger with a very cute style which I don’t think could be replicated easily (by me at least) who does lovely videos on fashion and style. Similar to Patricia Bright’s blog and videos she has a really laid back style of presenting which really draws me in.

zoellaCons: Again some of the products (not all!) which Zoella uses and reviews are quite expensive and this can sometimes make me feel a tad disconnected, especially because it can make it harder to try out the looks on yourself with different products.

http://www.youtube.com/user/zoella280390

So I’ve just gone into detail on a few of my absolute faves but there are also a few more below which I didnt have time to go in to!

Becca Rose – www.youtube.com/user/voussontbeauetbelle and beccarose.org

Shaanxo – www.youtube.com/user/shaaanxo

Boobs & Loubs – www.boobsandloubs.com

Alejandra TV – www.youtube.com/user/HomeOrganizing

Anyways, I know this was a bit of a random post but I hope it helps you get a bit of a background into who I am and the kind of things I’m in to! I’m sure there are loads more blogs and Youtube channels which I’ve missed off this list, so if you can think of any that I haven’t mentioned that are worth checking out, then let me know in the comments as I am always looking for new inspiration 🙂
